Abortion
procedures vary because of the need to respond to the different
stages of fetal development.
Suction-Aspiration
This
procedure is used between 6-12 weeks of development.
The
abortionist inserts a hollow plastic tube which is attached
to a suction machine, into the dilated uterus. The suction
empties out the uterus. The baby's body is torn as it is
suctioned through the hose.
Dilatation
and Curettage (D&C)
During
this procedure the cervix is dilated so that the baby can
be extracted in pieces by a ring forceps which is inserted
into the womb.
The
afterbirth is then scraped from the walls of the womb with
a curette "a rod shaped instrument with a sharp edged spoon
on the end. Profuse bleeding usually occurs.
Dilatation
and Evacuation (D&E)
This procedure is used after 12 weeks of development
At
this stage of development the baby is to large to fit through
the cervix. Instruments and suction curettage are used to
remove the baby. Since the baby's bones and skull is calcified
a pliers like instrument is used by the abortionist to seize
a leg or another part of the baby's body, then it is twisted
and pulled apart from the rest of the body. The skull must
be crushed and the spine snapped in order for them to be
removed from the womb. After the procedure, all body parts
must be reassembled and counted for to make sure the entire
baby was removed.
Saline
Injection
Used after 16 weeks of development
A needle
is inserted into the mother stomach and through the amniotic
sac. The fluid is removed from the amniotic sac and a salt
solution is injected into the sac. The baby then breaths
in the salt solution which then poisons the baby. This poison
literally burns the baby alive. Then uterus then begins
to contract and continues until all of the placental and
fetal material is pushed out.
Intercardiac
Injection
Used around 16 weeks of development.
An
ultrasound is used to pinpoint the location of the baby's
heart. A needle is placed in the baby's heart and a fluid
is injected. This fluid causes a heart attack immediately
which then kills the preborn child.
Partial
Birth or Dilation and Extraction (D&X)
Used up to 32 weeks development or beyond.
The
baby is partially delivered in to the birth canal. The legs
are delivered first then the torso, arms and shoulders.
The head is left in the uterus. The abortionist then uses
a blunt, curved scissors and forces them into the base of
the skull. The scissors are then spread to enlarge the opening.
Next the abortionist inserts a suction catheter to vacuum
out the child's brain. The skull then collapses and the
dead baby is removed.
